The internet and social media have been used by activists working under repressive regimes to share information, express themselves, and organize.  Yet governments are also adept at using technology to monitor, trace, and suppress dissent.  Please join us for a panel discussion including experts on the internet and its effectiveness in the struggle for democracy and human rights.

Our panelists will be Robert Guerra, Project Director of Internet Freedom at Freedom House; Bob Boorstin, Director of Corporate and Policy Communications to Google; and Cynthia Wong, Plesser Fellow at the Center for Democracy & Technology. Ellen Bork, the director of Democracy and Human Rights at the Foreign Policy Initiative, will moderate the discussion.
